Our Values

The foundation of our success and the guiding compass of our actions are our core principles, summed up in a single sentence: “With honesty, togetherness, and superior expertise, we perform for our customers.”

Let us take a closer look at this statement and the elements behind it:

  • The key sentence is: “…we perform for our customers.” This means our customers are both the starting point and the destination of our actions. Everything we do is dedicated to serving our customers. We measure our performance through three components:
    • Entrepreneurship within the enterprise: He/she understands customer needs, identifies opportunities for TMC, develops innovative solutions, and implements them profitably.
    • Passion: Brings strong positive energy and passion for detail, inspiring others to achieve even greater performance.
    • Results: Delivers agreed results on time and within budget, while helping others to achieve their goals successfully.
  • We deliver this performance through three elements: honest, together, and with superior expertise.
  • For us, honesty consists of two components:
    • Integrity: He/she always does what is right for TMC as a whole.
    • Steadfastness: Faces reality head-on, is honest with oneself and others, and stays committed to our agreed goals — even when challenges arise.
  • We measure our collaboration based on two elements.
    • Teamwork: Acts with empathy, respect, and helpfulness, and enjoys working in teams with strong colleagues who bring diverse and complementary strengths.
    • Open Communication: Communicates clearly, openly, and persuasively, winning both the hearts and minds of others.
  • Our expertise is understood dynamically and is based on three components:
    • Judgement: He/she is able to distinguish the important from the unimportant and prioritizes what matters most.
    • Expertise (for our leaders; other roles require different types of expertise): Recognized expert in at least 3 of 8 fields – Sales/Marketing, Procurement, R&D/Innovation, Production/SCM, Finance/Controlling, IT, Leadership/HR, Strategy.
    • Learning: Open to new ideas and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
  • In total, we consider four elements: honesty, togetherness, expertise, and performance. Each of these four elements is described by 2–3 components. The description is structured in such a way that measurement becomes quite straightforward:
    • Anyone who fulfills the components “always and everywhere” we call a “Master”. This is a very high standard and — honestly — none of us is always and everywhere a “Master”.
    • Anyone who fulfills the components “most of the time” we call a “Pro”. Those who achieve this consistently are among the key contributors in our company.
    • Anyone who fulfills the components “often” we call an “Advanced”.
    • Anyone who fulfills the components “sometimes” we call a “Beginner”.
    • Anyone who does not wish to fulfill the components, or even explicitly violates individual components, is not in the right place in our company.
    • A successful career at TMC moves between different stages: While we place great emphasis on honesty from the very beginning (= integrity, steadfastness), collaboration (= teamwork, open communication) can be continuously improved and refined over time. Expertise varies depending on how long we have been in a particular role. Anyone pursuing a career with us will therefore repeatedly move from being a “Pro” or even a “Master” back to a “Beginner,” as each new role must first be learned. What matters less is the level of expertise someone has today, and far more how quickly he or she is willing to learn. Performance then usually emerges as the result of the three preceding elements: honesty, togetherness, and expertise.
  • We are happy to provide feedback along these leadership values, and our career decisions are strongly based on their consistent fulfillment. The following chart summarizes our leadership values. It is displayed in all break rooms, meeting rooms, and key offices, reminding us every day of the standards we strive for.
